Addressing barriers to innovation

Welcome to Confluence
Where understanding meets execution
We live in exciting times for medical innovation, where rapid advancements in treatments have enormous potential for improving patient outcomes.
However, bringing these innovations through healthcare systems is a constant challenge – one that’s getting more difficult as treatments become increasingly complex.
New innovations do not always fit existing processes, nor slot into traditional categories for technologies, for example, those that span both drugs and devices, or digital health interventions. This has resulted in increasing access barriers for patients, from regulation and reimbursement through to implementation and uptake.

Therefore, commercialising medical innovation requires finely-tuned insight and strategies that are bold but practical. That’s where Confluence Health Consulting comes in.
We’re an established pharmaceutical consultancy which combines deep technical understanding with extensive experience in order to effectively shape the healthcare environment and pharmaceutical public policy. We go above and beyond to help clients navigate access paths for the best and most innovative treatments.
We do this using our extensive networks and market understanding. We partner with clients to develop healthcare public policy positions and craft government affairs and external engagement strategies at the decision-maker level.
If you’d like fresh ideas and strategies for shaping your healthcare public policy, government affairs and access environment in a way that allows your innovations to thrive, please read on or get in touch.
Why work with us
The gap between commercial innovations and healthcare systems is unfortunately widening. This is due to the combination of rapid growth in medical innovations, which are often highly targeted, complex to implement, or expensive. Regulatory, reimbursement and clinical implementation systems struggle to keep pace with this technology, especially as most health systems are in financial crisis.
Therefore, innovative companies and their trade associations must work harder to shape the public and government policies that will allow their innovations to progress through the healthcare system, often with less resources than ever before.
We formed Confluence Health Consulting because we were excited by new medical innovation but concerned that the complexity of novel treatments does not align with existing market frameworks. We wanted to support these new medical and pharmaceutical innovations by using our expertise to break down access barriers caused by policies, pricing structures and uptake considerations. Our work involves shaping policies for health, working to influence the external environment, and supporting advocacy initiatives that improve access. This includes public policy, pharmaceutical government affairs, pharmaceutical pricing policies and healthcare market access consulting (note: we do not do pricing or HTA submissions).
We combine expertise in both strategy development and execution with technical knowledge to deliver tangible results. We are an established consultancy with strong contacts built up over many years in senior policy roles. Markets we have worked in include Japan, Europe, UK and Australia. In addition, we have a network of related specialists we can bring together to solve specific problems for our clients.
Confluence will work with you to ensure your healthcare innovation has the best chance of commercial success and your treatment can be accessed by patients who need it most.
